Tips for those with Different Types of Curly Hair!

A few of our fans have written in asking for advice on how to use the wave shaping, curl defining formulas – and we’re so glad they did.

On highly coarse and curly hair, the wave/curl products may have less of a desired effect on the hair because their curls are so dense. If this is true of your experience, we have some advice we hope will help.

If you’re using our wave/curl formulas and are finding you still have loose hairs that seem untamable, they’re likely not a “frizz problem” (technically) – especially if you’re seeing this unruliness happen in the middle of the curl.

Your best option for this problem is:

1. Start with a leave-in on damp hair.

2. Mix your wave/curl formula with the straight making formulas to make the hold less strong.

When your hair is half dry, touch up the pieces that are most problematic with additional No Frizz. Work additional product over these areas, mid-shaft to ends (especially the top layer) and twirl pieces to encourage them to curl. Continue to twist pieces to create more definition, then let it air dry. If you have time, go over the same top layer pirces with a curling iron.

It’s all about adding moisture and twisting the problematic areas to achieve more definition for sleeker ringlets.

Let us know how it goes!

We’re sorry to hear that, Maribeth. Our customer service team is here to help so give us a buzz at 1-866-240-9933 (Monday-Friday, 8am to 6pm ET). However, if you do heat-style her hair often, you more-than-likely could use the added conditioners of our creams instead of using the spray. Definitely call the customer service team and we’ll answer whatever question you have!

I ordered the trial kit from Sephora to see how it worked. I have fine to medium curly hair. I blow it straight and I don’t mind if a little curl comes back in, but I hate the frizz. After using the product for a couple of weeks my hair is like straw and I am hoping that if I stop using the products the effects will reverse. I am very disappointed…even my hair stylist mentioned my hair was extremely dry last week when I got a cut. I won’t be buying Living Proof anymore!

    Hi,
I must amend my comments I made on July 17.
On the 3rd day of my Savannah vacation No Frizz seemed to kick in. I woke on the 3rd day and I had no frizz (really) could it have just taken the application of heated styling tools to my hair? I don’t know but I was impressed.
I really didn’t want to wash my hair the following day, but after the pool I had to…. Even after shampooing it seemed that my hair had less frizz when I blew it out.
I am going to order a larger bottle and perhaps apply more of the product next time.

    Hi,
I wish I could say that my experience with No Frizz was fantastic but I can’t. I ordered the No Frizz Straight Making Treatment for thick course hair. My order arrived yesterday just as I was packing for vacation to Savannah Georgia, I figured I’d give it a try before I left thinking I’d have an advantage over steamy, humid Savannah. Wrong.

I showered and put the treatment on my hair as directed in the video, and blew out my hair. It actually did help eliminate some of the blow dry frizz I normally get. I continued to style my hair as usual and when finished I thought the product just might be living up to the hype and felt pretty good.

I threw the luggage in the car and headed for Georgia, along the way we had to stop for fuel, when I got out of the car and saw my reflection in the car window, I was horrified! I quickly go to the service station restroom to check my hair in the mirror. Yep…frizz city, my hair looked as if I had no product what so ever in it. At this point I’m wishing I had brought a hat.

Nothing I can do now…So I awake the next morning in Savannah (beautiful city) and dread styling my hair for the dripping humidity filled day, I grab the No Frizz and put the remaining product thru my hair, praying it would do the job. Nope.

Bottom line for me is, No Frizz seems to work if you don’t step outside your home or office, but once you step into the humidity it’s over. I ordered the small bottle just to try the product I got two treatments out of the one small bottle, price was $19.00 (incl. S&H ) so I figure that’s $8 a day. If it worked for ME I would most likely pay $8 a day for a good hair day.

For me it didn’t work. I will ask for a refund.

I am still on vacation but will find a salon that sells the Paul Mitchell “skinny” line of products that I can rely on.
    Sorry No Frizz.

    Hi Bonnie,

Try the Wave Shaping, Curl Defining No Frizz Treatment for Thick to Coarse hair. It will give you the frizz control and the hold to define your curls. Use the Straight Making Treatment on the days you want to straighten your hair. You might just be able to get away with using one product but let us know how it goes. Remember, apply No Frizz first, then follow with other products such as mousse or spray gels.

  7. Bonnie says:

I have coarse, thick, naturally curly hair. And enough of it to create 2 full heads of hair for anyone else. I currently use a mousse for curly hair and a spray gel on top of that. I can not use one without the other. The mousse keeps the hair together to form the curls and the spray gel keeps the frizz out. Like others, I’m sure, if I use too much of one or the other the result is crunchy curls. Which is still better than frizz that could rival Tina Turner on her biggest hair day.

I am wondering if I order the treatment for coarse hair should I also use the spray for the thin hair as well or would the treatment for coarse hair do the trick? I would fall over if I could actually just use one product on this pile of hair.

I also straighten my hair on occasion (since it takes about 45 minutes it is only on dry, non-humid days)and will probably try the product for straightening my hair.

    Hi Mary Ellen –

It may be that you’re not using enough of the product or getting it equally distributed around that problematic crown where you’re experiencing the most frizz. Visit the product detail page for Wave Shaping, Curl Defining Cream and watch the How-To video for detailed instructions. Or, give us a call and we’d be happy to walk you through usage. 1-866-240-9933.

I have thick coarse wavy have that blow drys beautifully in the winter without humidity. I do use silicone products such as Redkin all soft shampoo and heavy cream conditioner. However, in the summer with the humidiy I have a frizzy glow on the top of my head only. I do switch to the curly look and use Deva No Poo shampoo and conditioner and add alot of arc angel gel and dry with a difusser, Again, the top of my head has all these loose uncontrolable frizzy curls. I tried the No Frizz Wave shaping/curl defining and I blew dry my hair which looked great until I went outside. Frizz galore! What am I doing wrong? I’d love to give it another try. Thanks.

Danielle, thanks for the e-mail and question. Our products work great on African American hair. Prior to launching we did a lot of testing and have gotten a lot of great feedback too. Give us a call at 866-240-9933 if you’re not sure exactly which formula to try.

    What I find works best:

I leave a little bit of regular hair conditioner in the ends of my hair after showering. Then with completely wet hair I apply the no frizz along with a dab of Pureology’s Hydrate Shine Max serum. I comb the product through my soaking wet hair. Then I do a light scrunch or two-just to bring back the wave after combing the sopping hair through and let it air-dry. It takes forever to dry, but the results are worth it. The curls stay together, remain smooth and have terrific definition. For a few unruly pieces I just curl them with an small barrel curling iron.

(I have color-treated, fine-med. textured hair- but tons of it. It is more of a larger spiral curl-then kinky)
